Bio: My name is Carol Yakiwchuk. My educational background includes a diploma in Dental Hygiene (1992) and a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (2009) from the University of Manitoba, and a Masters in Health Studies and Leadership (2012) at Athabasca University (on-line). I am a self-proclaimed lifelong learner, always striving to understand more and increase my effectiveness as an educator. I currently teach part-time as a clinical and community instructor in the dental hygiene programs at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Community College. I also work as the Dental Hygiene Practice Consultant to the BC Dental Hygienists Association, creating professional development opportunities and resources for dental hygienists. Along with my passion for teaching, I am highly committed to making a difference in the health of vulnerable populations, such as intellectually challenged individuals (Clinical Director for Special Olympics Special Smiles Program), dependent older adults in care, and young children to name a few. I share my life with Terry, my husband of 34 years, my amazing adult children and their spouses, and little Cooper ~ our Chihweenie rescue dog extraordinaire. Along with hiking, fishing and exploring the beauty of British Columbia; I LOVE to travel, swim, and bake.
